About Theatre

The Saratov Opera and Ballet is one of the earliest founded in the Volga region and nationwide. Its history dates back to early 19th century (in 2003, a bicentennial of theatrical undertakings in Saratov was celebrated); by the beginning of the 20th century, the city advanced to a position of the centre of musical activities throughout the area. The pride of the city, the Conservatoire, was indeed the first institution of the kind in Russian province, as were also the College of Music and the Union of Orchestra Musicians.
